Winslow Technology Group Hosts Compellent Users’ Group

BOSTON (Sept 12, 2007)—Winslow Technology Group, LLC hosted a record crowd for its Fall 2007 Compellent Users’ Group. Forty customers hailed from 5 states and represented a wide range of industries—communication, education, finance, healthcare, manufacturing and technology. This session focused on better leveraging the users Compellent SAN investment, with special attention paid to helping the participants meet their Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPOs).

Jim Harrell, Winslow Technology Group Manager of Systems Engineering, reviewed best practices for Compellent’s Data Instant Replay software. Jim gave real world examples of WTG SAN customers who are utilizing Replay schedules to allow for quick and easy recovery of both their “application” and “boot” volumes on the SAN in the event of an unexpected business interruption. Jim introduced and demonstrated WTG’s own “ServerReplay” software—a scripting GUI scripting tool that makes is much easier for a Compellent end user to automatically mount a Compellent Replay to a particular Windows or Linux server.

Marty Sanders, Compellent Technologies Inc. VP of Technology Services, focused his discussion on the reporting capabilities of the Compellent SAN and the business continuity capabilities of the Compellent SAN that are achieved through the Remote Data Instant Replay software. Marty gave a live demonstration of the Enterprise Manager software and highlighted the “Top Five” screens in Enterprise Manager that every user should be familiar with for improved capacity planning, storage management, and remote replication. Marty also gave attendees a preview of Compellent’s technology road map for the next 3-5 years.

The Users Group welcomed John Shedlosky, Senior Systems Engineer from Data Domain. John reviewed the value proposition for data de-duplication in today’s IT environment. John articulated that more and more businesses are using compression and de-duplication software like that provided by Data Domain to effectively back up their mission critical production data to a “back-up to disk appliance”.

The meeting closed with a highly interactive Q and A session that featured a panel of storage industry experts including Marty Sanders, Jim Harrell, John Shedlosky, and Kevin Pazera Northeast Storage Architect for Compellent Technologies.

“This session was great,” applauded Scott Winslow, President and Founder of Winslow Technology Group. “The group really interacted, sharing and learning from each others concerns, tips and solutions. The SAN has become such a critical part of our customer’s environment. We think it is invaluable for our Compellent Users to get together on a regular basis to share their experiences, build a network of other SAN users, and get the latest information from both the manufacturer and the re-seller.”

All enjoyed an evening of dinner and an exciting Red Sox game, with a ninth inning walk-off home run by David Ortiz!
