Business Continuity Planning: Best Practices

BOSTON (Sept. 14, 2007)—Earlier this week, Winslow Technology Group, LLC took time out to host a session focused on Business Continuity Planning: Best Practices.

Three featured speakers—Sue Bishop, President of TIC Business Consultants, Marty Sanders, Compellent Technologies VP of Technology Services, and Russ Leathe, Director on Network and Computing Services at Gordon College—discussed their experiences with developing and executing business continuity plans. The three shared their expertise from three very different walks of life: that of industry consultant and disaster recovery expert, a ground breaking storage technology provider, and a sophisticated end-user respectively.

Sue Bishop, President of TIC Business Consultants, spoke about the importance of a Business Continuity Plan and how companies of all sizes need to invest in their research and implementation. Ms. Bishop has helped organizations for over twenty years with design, documentation, implementation and testing of their business continuity plans. She shared her insight into the kind of key information that helps companies develop and implement their continuity plans.

Marty Sanders, Compellent Technologies VP of Technology Services, explained how storage design can and should be a critical part of overall planning. He outlined how recovery objectives can be addressed with a well-designed Compellent Storage Area Network, and reviewed the features that offer countless benefits to users in creating and testing their business continuity plan. Using Compellent’s Data Instant Replay and Remote Data Instant Replay software, businesses can recover “any size data volume in less than ten seconds” Marty explained.

Winding up the session was Russ Leathe, Director on Network and Computing Services at Gordon College. Mr. Leathe discussed why he decided to implement a Compellent SAN: to obtain a system that could scale to the growing needs of his educational facility, while simultaneously providing data integrity throughout any expected or unexpected business interruption.

Scott Winslow, President of Winslow Technology Group commented, “Our goal for this session was to offer value and insight. We assembled these three industry representatives to provide multiple perspectives on the topic. Business continuity is an increasingly important concern for our users—that is why we host sessions like this one.”

The session ended with lunch and an informal Q and A with the guest speakers.
